Celebrate National Puppy Day

National Puppy DayDogs are more than just domestic animals, they are members of our families. National Puppy Day, celebrated on March 23, encourages people across the country to celebrate the happiness that puppies bring to our lives, as well as to promote adoption from shelters rather than puppy mills. This day gives us an excellent opportunity to thank those who have opened their homes to shelter puppies, as well as to honor the men and women who work in the Cincinnati area to rescue and rehome these sweet animals. By the numbers, over 70,000 puppies and kittens are born every day. There is simply no way to find good homes for all of those animals, so the first line of defense is to ask pet owners to spay or neuter their pets. Once the animals are born, nearly 4 million dogs are admitted into animal shelters every year, and only about one-third are eventually adopted. Puppies born in the shelters stand a better chance of adoption than older dogs, but the shelters compete with puppy breeders and pet stores to find the puppies homes.

Great Idea: If someone has a new puppy member of the family, send them this adorable “Puppy Love” arrangement to say congratulations!
National Puppy DayWhen you rescue a puppy or dog from a shelter, you are quite possibly saving its life. While some may be concerned that these dogs may have behavioral or socialization issues, the opposite is more likely. The majority of dogs which have been surrendered to shelters did not end up there because of their behavior. Instead, owners usually no longer have the ability or desire to care for the animal. Shelter dogs are often well socialized and eager to fit into a home with their new family. New owners happily report that their new furry children are exceptionally loving and apparently grateful for their second chance.National Puppy Day
