Grandparents Day Celebrations

Perfect love sometimes does not come until the first grandchild. ~Welsh Proverb Grandparents Day is observed on the first Sunday after Labor Day, and is a time set aside to celebrate  the very special relationship between grandchildren and their grandparents. This is the perfect opportunity to teach children about the wisdom and experience that older generations can offer to their families, and to society in general. Marian McQuade, who was instrumental in establishing the holiday, wasn't interested in it being a big commercial holiday. Instead, she wanted Grandparents Day to be a time to celebrate family, and her vision was to see families gathering, holding family reunions, and spending time together.  Read More about Grandparents Day Celebrations »

Honoring Her on Mother’s Day

People have been celebrating their mothers for thousands of years. In fact, we have records of holidays as far back as Greek and Roman cultures. However, Mother’s Day as we recognize it today was unrelated to those ancient cultures. It may have begun as a Christian tradition in Europe called “Mothering Sunday”, which was observed on the last weekend of Lent. Established as a day for people to return to their “mother church”, it evolved into a day to have reunions with family and bringing their mothers flowers and small gifts. But here in America, Mother’s Day as we know it today is only about 100 years old.  Read More about Honoring Her on Mother’s Day »

Whether your morning will consist of an egg hunt or a sunrise service, Adrian Durban Florist has the right flowers for the day. How do you celebrate? Did You Know? The Easter egg has its origination in ancient spring festivals. The egg was considered a symbol of fertility, and women would carry as many eggs as possible around with them, often in grass "nests".
